Christmas Twist Table Runner

Mom brought her Bernina over to my house today, so that meant it was a day to quilt! We created this table runner a few weeks ago, so I just finished it off with a simple stipple quilting design this morning. It's getting easier, thankfully!

Rain or Shine Block

I'm playing around with a new block design from Elizabeth Hartman's book The Practical Guide to Patchwork. The name of the pattern is Rain or Shine.

I'm trying to decide if I want to do a whole quilt out of it. What do you think?

Baby Butterfly Quilt

I was able to get this one quilted and off to my friend this weekend. One thing I have learned about free-motion quilting on a regular machine: it is harder when you use flannel! I really felt like I had to tug this one through, so it was definitely more time consuming and stressful. I decided to quilt this one with a loopy design and, like the Flower Patch baby quilt, the butterfly is partly made of white chenille. Love it!

Flower Patch Baby Quilt

Here is my latest baby girl quilt. My goals were, one, to use as many scraps as possible, and two, to mix several different bright colors and make them look like they were made to go together. I really think the floral and paisley fabrics are what pulled the look together. The flower is machine appliqued and the center is out of white chenille. I quilted it with a really open stipple design.

Girls' Retreat in Utah

The cousins and aunts on my husband's side of the family have started a new tradition of having a girls' retreat for one day in the summer. I missed it last year, but I was able to go this time. It was so much fun. Everyone showed up with their machines, mats, and fabric and we spent an entire day talking, laughing, and sewing together. See the zig-zag quilt hanging up? I guess it was kind of the inspiration for our project this year. Everyone made red, white, and blue half-square triangles and we swapped them with at the end of the day. Now, we get to choose how we want to arrange them. Fun idea, right? We'll all have our own unique quilts, but they'll all be made of the same fabrics.

Now I have all these lovely squares at home to get busy with!

Stained Glass Table Runner

Lois gave me this jewel-toned charm pack to create a table runner for the family reunion auction we had in Utah last week. Thank you Aunt Nancy for buying it! It was a challenge to work with fabric that I normally do not choose, but I think it turned out well. It was great to get more practice quilting, too.

Finished July Table Runner

Now that I've {sort of} figured out free-motion quilting, I am finishing up projects so much faster! I attacked another one of my runner tops yesterday and completed this one. Too bad it's August now...

Finished Spring Star Table Runner

Remember this runner? I attempted free-motion quilting again and this time it went a lot smoother. Hooray! I just love these fabrics, too. I could have totally botched it and I'm sure it would have still looked beautiful.
