Sneak Peek

Look at this beautiful fabric that ended up on my doorstep today from Riley Blake! This is one of their newest lines called "Vintage Baby" by Lori Whitlock. It doesn't go to fabric stores until April, but they've sent me some samples to make a quilt with for their blog.

I can't wait to cut into this stuff!

Finished Minky Lovey

Here is my finished "lovey" experiment. I ended up using an ultra-fluffy, checker-board style of minky, rather than the traditional dot pattern. Great price--you can find it at JoAnn. It's also the softest thing I've ever felt in my life. No exaggeration.

No binding for this one. Just an easy top-stitch along the edge. This one went to my dear friend that is expecting baby #3 any day now. I hope he loves it!

Mod Leaf Throw Pillow in Red

This pillow is a take on the shams in my bedroom, only with home decor weight houndstooth in place of the linen. The fabrics for the leaves are a bit funky--floral,  feathers, plaid, and stars. I think the eclectic mix does a lot for the personality if the pillow. These are so fun to make!

I love it on my mom's red couch! You can find the pillow in my shop.

Finished Jewelry Quilt

I got my Jewelry quilt back from the quilter! The timing was actually perfect. I got it back at the retreat in Utah last week and was able to get it bound in time for Show and Tell on the last night. I started this quilt in a class I took from Flora Gillman at the retreat last year, so I guess it took exactly one year from start to finish. I couldn't be happier with it and Lynne did an exquisite job quilting it.

Pieced Houndstooth & Scottie Dog Baby Quilt

The houndstooth baby quilt is done...

and I'm in love with this little dog!

I love how the large scale of the houndstooth gives this quilt a very "tradtional-meets-modern" feel.

At first, the plan was to have the scottie dog on the quilt front, but I couldn't figure out a color that would stand out on both the black and the pink. So, the dog got moved to the back. His little collar is made out of pink ric rac (maybe he is a her). It's in the shop.

Ric Rac Citrus Table Runner

Today, I finished the last of my three citrus runners. On this one, I experimented a bit with sewing ric rac on the front and I think it turned out pretty cute. Also, each of the turquoise diamond got a little flower quilted inside it. I really do think this is the happiest fabric in the world!

Bryce Canyon Quilt Retreat

I just got back from an amazing, four-day quilt retreat in beautiful Bryce Canyon! My mom, mom-in-law, and I all bunked together and had a great time. This was my second time going and I had an even better time than last year.

My first class was this little beauty called Flowerbox by Connie Cawley and Carol Adams of Two Peas in a Pod.

My second class was Chicken Coop taught by Susan Greenhalgh.

My third class was totally out of the norm for me--Circles by Kaye Evans.

Works in progress:

Hopefully in the near future, I'll be posting pictures of my version of each of my teachers' quilts.

At the end of each night, we had a trunk show and got to see some amazing quilts by some really amazing women. Here were a few of my favorites:

I had such a good time and it was great to just be near so many talented women. I'm inspired and ready for a new year full of quilting!

Funky Pears Table Runner

Fortunately, I had a bunch of leftover fabric from the toaster cover tutorial I did last month. I absolutely love this funky pear fabric and thought it would be perfect for a table runner. The runner came together pretty fast, since it's just simple stripes. I decided to add the little crochet flowers (courtesy of Riley Blake) on the top just to give it a little something special.

It's in the shop!

By the way, this will be my last post for awhile, because tomorrow I'm heading for a quilt retreat in Utah! It feels a little like Christmas Eve for me...

Pieced Hounds-tooth Quilt Top

I just finished making all the blocks for my baby hounds-tooth quilt. I am still amazed at how a few diagonal stripes and solid blocks make the hounds-tooth pattern. I wouldn't say this quilt top was easy to make, but it was a lot of fun. I'm definitely going to be doing some more projects with this pattern and {hopefully} a Riley Blake tutorial with it! I'm thinking maybe charcoal gray and yellow...?

I'm hoping to get this puppy quilted soon!
