Frolic Variation Quilt Block

This morning I decided to tackle a pile of leftovers from BasicGrey's Jovial line. I wanted to try something new and a little bit challenging - not paper piecing, or partial seams, or anything crazy - just a little more time-consuming.

McCall's Quilting website has an awesome library of traditional quilt blocks and instructions how to make each one. I went with the Frolic Variation. I like it because it looks complex without being over the top. There are very few seams to match up, so it's also very forgiving.

Lots of prepwork (and Lego man photo bomb):

The finished block.

I think this plus two more blocks would make a perfect table runner and maybe, at the rate I am finishing projects, I'll have it done in time for Christmas!

  1. Frolic is the perfect name. It does look complex, are you sure it was fairly simple?
